ARTIST STATEMENT

My painting rests solidly in the exploration of abstraction and expressionism. I work with the intention of imbuing emotion into my canvas, and keeping freedom of interpretation as my cannon and paramount priority. I am not attempting to convey direct message through my art. I am utilising my own thoughts, emotions and life experience to create a visual environment that others may or may not identify with and viscerally encounter. Much like a discussion in philosophy, the idea is the focus, not the result. I am investigating the intent to remove thought and purpose from the creation of the work, and allow the subconscious to fuel and propel the work itself into being. I keep planning to an absolute minimum, and believe in the momentum of action to allow creation.
